'Palm FM' will provide regular updates on the progress and two of the radio station team are expected to take part on the day.

The Challenge the station have taken on is to bring a heritage 38ft wooden lifeboat - similar to the original 'Brixham Lifeboat - The City of Exeter' by road from the RNLI Whitby museum and then on Saturday 28 January 2012 take it to St Marys Bay (Mudstone). From there it will be 'pulled' by oar by ten present day crew members dressed in the gear of the early lifeboatmen of  the 1800's, a Coxswain, Deputy Coxswain and Bowman - the normal crew. The lifeboat weighs in excess of 4 tons.

The whole station team are involved and some 22 volunteer crew and 16 wives and partners will taking a direct part in the Challenge with others in support. Two teams will be formed as below

The planned passage is from the beach where the first Brixham lifeboat was launched St Marys Bay (Mudstone) to Brixham Harbour - a distance of 3 miles - where the present day lifeboat resides. The crew will be changed and the fresh crew will then 'pull' the lifeboat across to Paignton and then on to Beacon Cove (The Ladies Bathing Cove) where the first Torquay Lifeboat was based in 1876.

If you feel energetic why not walk the Coast Path from St Mary's Bay starting at 09:00 to end up in Torquay at 15:00 - the route is a little over 12 miles - and you have 6 hours to walk it. Meet up with the whole team at Paignton Pier around 12:30 for lunch. Bring a good camera.
Meanwhile the wives and partners of the crew will 'pull' an inshore lifeboat by road from the lifeboat station through Brixham and onwards to Paignton passing through the main shopping areas and meeting the heritage lifeboat in the vicinity of Paignton Pier. From there the ladies will head through Preston by road and onwards to Haldon Pier to meet up once again with the lifeboat. A traditional act by the ladies to meet the crew on their return from sea. They will of course have buckets handy for donations towards meeting the Challenge or just drop money into the lifeboat!

The classic lifeboat will be accompanied by the Torbay All Weather Lifeboat and the vessel 'Annie May' as safety cover - any other vessels wishing to join us are of course welcome.

The ladies will be accompanied along the roads by 'SafeResponse' of Torquay
