'Lifeboat Launch in Progress'
signal - 14 January 2012 |
|
| |
|
|
| |
Following the cessation
of 'maroons' to signal that a lifeboat launch was in progress the RNLI
have investigated several replacement options and have selected one system
to trial at a number of lifeboat stations. Torbay lifeboat station now has
a system in commission on a twelve month trial basis. Harbour Master
notices have been issued. |

You were introduced to
the sound when you opened this page! The sounder will generally be used
between 07:00 and 22:00 hours when a lifeboat launch has been requested
and is progressing into the launch sequence. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
The tone, pitch and sound levels are
designed to give reasonable notice to all vessels (and people) in the
harbour area that the lifeboat is about to progress to sea. Listening to
the signal via your computer system is hearing it out of context so please
wait to hear it around the harbour area before commenting - this page is
to give you a clue should you hear a different sound! |

|
| |
Comments are welcome at
the lifeboat station on the effectiveness of the trial system and should
be addressed to the Lifeboat Operations Manager. |

It is hoped with time
that this will become a familiar part of the lifeboat tasking from the
Torbay lifeboat station based in Brixham |
