Location of Casualty 1.5 miles East of Watcombe

Service The ALB was just concluding our Annual SAR Demonstration when she was tasked to the vessel

'Anuari' with six persons on board with engine failure. The vessel was initially attended by

Teignmouth ILB and the Torbay ALB took over a tow to Torquay Harbour.

Location of Casualty 50 22.5N 003 30.7W

Service The 30ft Yacht 'Gina' issued a May Day call after grounding on rocks near Mansands Beach

(South of Berry Head). The yacht refloated and Oscar IV stood by. ALB tasked and assisted the

yacht back to Kingswear. The skipper had suffered cuts and bruises and was transferred to

hospital for checks.

Service A motor cruiser apparently lost power when her engine room automatic fire

quenching systems operated following a fuel leak. She was approximately 13 miles East of

Berry Head and raised a Pan Pan for assistance. ALB tasked and returned her under tow to the

station pontoon for investigation.

Service Both boats launched as support to the local fire brigade attending a reported fire aboard a trawler

in Brixham Harbour. Stood down when no support was required.

Additional Notes Welding operation in progress causing excessive smoke.

Location of Casualty 2 Cables SE of the Orestone

Service The yacht 'Samaran' was struggling against the near gale SW winds trying to enter Torbay

bound for Torquay and suffered engine failure. The Harbour Master's patrol boat attempted to

assist but was unable to. ALB launched to their assistance and returned them under tow to

Torquay. Whilst on passage a cabin cruiser got into difficulty off Natural Arch - Patrol Boat

attended but required assistance of a crewman to manage a tow back to Torquay.

Additional Notes Net result two boats returned under tow to Torquay Harbour.

Location of Casualty 100 yards off Hollicombe Headland

Service Launched to a report of an up-turned vessel off the coastline at Hollicombe Head. A RIB

attended and recovered casualties then towed the dinghy to Paignton Harbour. ALB proceeded

to ensure all was safe before returning to station.

Additional Notes Torrential Rain and visibility almost nil at the time.

Location of Casualty Rocks to East of Meadfoot Beach

Service Members of the public reported a 17 ft speedboat with four people on board in difficulty off

Meadfoot Beach.

With fairly stiff winds from the west the ALB was tasked. On arrival they found a 14 ft rowing

boat on the rocks with four people isolated by the tide. 'Y' boat deployed and all returned to the

lifeboat. Boat recovered using the Y boat and taken in tow to Torquay harbour. One occupant

transferred to shore by Y boat to drive a car and trailer to Torquay Harbour.

Location of Casualty 10 SSE of Berry Head

Service The power boat 'Blue Marlin' a 'Swordfish 36' on the round Britain Race sank quickly following a

loss of power and alarms from the engine room indicating rapid water ingress. Four crew

abandoned the boat to their life raft and were picked up by a RIB in the area. The boat sank very

quickly. ALB tasked to their assistance and recovered the four crew and their life raft returning

them to Brixham where they were met by the race support team.

Service Launched to report of a white vessel aground at Hollicombe Head. Object visual from both

Brixham and Torquay Harbours. Investigation found a number of white sand bags. Investigation

Service Fishing vessel 'Harvester' reported engine room flooding and in need of assistance. ALB

'Harvester' taken in tow slowly to Brixham due to level of water on board.

Service Launched to fishing vessel with engine failure off the Dartmouth Mewstone. Returned under tow

to Brixham.

Additional Notes Yacht Sequel also in the vicinity caught in a pot line and freed themselves without any assistance

Location of Casualty 50 14.9N 003 17.8W

Service Racing yacht 'Fair Do's' raised a Pan Pan when they discovered the yacht was taking water.

Bilge pumps were unable to cope and manual bailing was required.

ALB tasked to her assistance some 11 miles SSE of Berry Head. Three other vessels

responded to the Pan Pan. When on scene the ALB transferred one crewman and a portable

pump whilst attempts were made to staunch the flow. The yacht under her own power was

escorted to Brixham for repairs

Additional Notes A large hole was found in the anchor locker.

Location of Casualty 25 miles ENE Berry Head

Service Following an unsuccessful Pan Pan request for assistance to the fishing vessel Shelley Marie

the life boat was tasked. The vessel had lost all propulsion. On locating the vessel she was

taken in tow towards Weymouth and that lifeboat subsequently took her in tow to Weymouth

Harbour to investigate and repair.

Service Whilst mooring the lifeboat following the previous shout a request for assistance came from the

vessel 'Chicken LoLo' that had suffered engine failure in Babbacombe Bay. Lifeboat Launched to

their assistance and returned them under tow to Torquay.

Location of Casualty One mile north Churston Point

Service The motor vessel Swift Turn discovered a large volume of water in the engine room and

requested assistance from the Brixham Marina staff. The lifeboat station was alerted and self

launched to their assistance. A major pipe failure had occurred siphoning water into the engine

room. The emergency pump was established and the vessel returned to the marina under tow.
