Location of 300 metres off Meadfood Beach

Service A small dive RIB issued a MayDay apparently taking water. Several vessels attended. Divers

were down at the time and 'Yacht Freedom' attended the RIB - others collected the divers as

they surfaced and returned them to vessel 'Awesome Explorer'. Dive RIB casualties then

transferred to the ALB with the intention of returning the RIB to Torquay however 'Yacht

Freedom' then suffered a fouled propeller. Oscar IV returned the RIB and Torbay Lifeboat

returned 'Yacht Freedom' to Torquay Harbour.

Service May Day Relay raised at 11:22 by the 'Girl Rhona' reporting capsize of fishing Vessel 'Sara

Jayne'. Three crew onboard - two were recovered from the sea by the 'Girl Rhona' and

subsequently transferred to RFA Wave Knight via their fast rescue craft. After completing a

search pattern Rescue106 transferred the two rescued crew to Torbay Hospital. An extensive

search for third crew member by upwards of fourteen vessels continued until all light was lost.

Regrettably the third crew member was not located and search vessels headed for home

around 19:45hrs with Torbay Lifeboat leaving the scene at 20:25hrs. Our thoughts are with
all those associated with this tragedy.

Additional Torbay Lifeboat acted as the 'On Scene Command' vessel coordinating search patterns in

conjunction with HM Coastguard. (Link to Page summarising the operation)
